The Design Director researches, designs and develops market appropriate footwear across all categories. Leads, directs and coaches lifestyle design team and development teams and manages product development resources.

Primary Duties

  • Work with VP Global Product in setting seasonal vision and seasonal line strategy.
  • Designs and develops market appropriate footwear within project development guidelines. 
  • Lead London Design team and outside designers on design brief, seasonal theme, creation of designs, line building.
  • Partners with marketing team to collaborate on seasonal stories and inform on all key selling features and benefits of finished product.  
  • Interacts with product team and materials team to direct material seasonal needs.
  • Interpret seasonal trends and filter these through the brand DNA.
  • Creates seasonal color palettes in collaboration with product team. 
  • Work with Asia-Development group with ”design to cost” mentality.
  • Work with Development to ensure product ideation is brought to life.  Ensure that patterns, construction and outsole blueprints are in line with design with overseas factories for production. 
  • Works with Advanced Concept team to share and learn new innovations
  • Works with Advanced Concept team on PDM 3D designs. 
  • Establish and continuously use effective communication channels to ensure the team is kept aware of all-relevant product and business issues.
  • Performs other duties as required/assigned by manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • 7+ years footwear design experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Knowledge of footwear shoemaking – constructions, materials and usages.
  • Must have CAD/Adobe experience.
  • Experience in shoe sample rooms/development facilities.
  • Pattern making/cutting skills.
  • Working knowledge of shoe components and materials, especially leather.
  • Working knowledge of fitting processes and requirements
  • Working knowledge of sole moulding and mould making.
  • Appreciation of design proportions and aesthetic requirements.
  • Excellent presentation skills. 
  • Excellent people and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication skills.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Normal office environment.  International and domestic travel.
